Suica and Pasmo have become an ubiquitous part of life and travel in Japan, but you can’t get a new card for either.
Wow, even sale of registered cards has been stopped. That makes things quite difficult for people moving in to get a card at all.
You can still use the app, so you don’t need a physical card.
Is that compatible with foreign phones?
That was difficulty when I was looking into using the MyNumber card for online stuff.

As the article says: this only affects the physical cards, you can still buy Suica and Pasmo cards in Apple Pay and Google Pay. I wouldn’t expect any problems with that. These virtual cards have another big plus: you can manage the account balance directly on your phone.
Has anyone ever had a problem with the virtual Suica or Pasmo card?
My phone died once. But it’s less hassle than carrying a card.
