I really enjoyed biking the Driveway after work during the pandemic.
So, when road closers happen, it can actually take a while for traffic to change and people to adapt to any change. Happens the other way too, if you add lanes to a highway for a few months traffic flows better, but after I think 6 or so months, I can remember actual number, it just returns to normal or worse.
I’d love to see the driveway shutdown for a while year straight (winter maintained of course) and see what happens to traffic. Winter maintenance might be easier because both lanes wouldn’t need to be complete cleared for people to use it. I know less people bike in the winter, but is that because it’s harder, or because the roads and paths aren’t maintained?
Wish we didn’t elect Sutcliffe tho, he’s obviously being hostile to anyone outside a car. God forbid some one in a car needs to take a little longer than anyone else.
I enjoy when the driveway is closed to cars and I can use it commute to the market by bike. Sure I can go along the canal, but it’s much fast and I’m out of people walking away on the road.
In Mayor Sutcliffe’s defence calling it a driveway and then saying you can’t drive on it is kind of a bait and switch
