By a 17-point margin, Oregonians approved Ballot Measure 110, which eliminated criminal penalties for possessing small amounts of any drug, including cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine. When the policy went into effect early the next year, it lifted the fear of prosecution for the state’s drug users and launched Oregon on an experiment to determine whether a long-sought goal of the drug-policy reform movement—decriminalization—could help solve America’s drug problems.
Last year, the state experienced one of the sharpest rises in overdose deaths in the nation and had one of the highest percentages of adults with a substance-use disorder. During one two-week period last month, three children under the age of 4 overdosed in Portland after ingesting fentanyl.
Our society is a Jenga tower of deferred responsibility. I don’t think that the real issue is whether or not drugs are illegal, it’s a lot deeper than that.
Men aren’t allowed to build anymore, we are not allowed to conquer. Drugs are a way out of a useless life. But the kids… Damn, that gets me. This society is evil from the top down.
I don’t know how to get out of it.
If we get Trump in, maybe we have a reprieve. Maybe, but for how long. There is no one to replace him. With all due respect to the DeSantis fans, he is playing the game too. They will all sell us out bit by bit, so slow we don’t notice, until it is done.
Who takes over after Trump? Another sell out. They all talk tough no one has follow through. 2024 is going to be nasty. Beyond nasty. Pray up.
