  • This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion, but, imma say it anyway. If what you’re using now works for you and your family and people are happy with continuing to use it, then keep using it. There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. You have to pick your battles, and pick what you spend your time and your energy on. I personally don’t know anything about tidal, I made the switch to YouTube music bc I already pay for YouTube premium, and I used their import tool for my liked songs and my playlists. Very easy, seamless experience for me, only a couple songs “couldn’t be found” or YouTube picked the “wrong” version (like it picked a live version over a studio recording, for example).

But if what you’re using is working out … Idk man, might just be easier to keep using it. Esp since you’re making it sound like you simply don’t want to actually switch and you’re starting to cave to peer pressure.

  • The algorithm recommends things it thinks you’ll like or have watched before. So if its recommending AI slop, it’s because you’re watching AI slop already. People just refuse to take the time to “train” your algorithm (and this isn’t just YouTube, it’s all algorithmic based platforms). You like / dislike stuff, hide things, give feedback, etc, and eventually you only really see the stuff you actually want to see. Sure some things slip through but 🤷‍♀️ I use YouTube and will continue to only bc the people I watch don’t post anywhere else, unfortunately.

  • Perhaps it’s the app you’re using? I would say most people (at least on Lemmy, where I’m viewing this from) don’t tag the OP unless there’s something specific they want to draw their attention to or if they’re calling them out specifically in a reply. They get notifications of all your comments so no real need to tag them. It’s a lot like reddit in that respect (again, I’m on Lemmy, using the Voyager app. Another app might be different).

Edit: apparently that’s a mastadon thing. Proceed.
