Are sims accurate enough that with a wheel, pedals, and a shifter that I could reach someone how to drive a manual transmission? Obviously we’d finish up in a real car, in the real world, but I was thinking that maybe they’d learn better without the stress of real world consequences, and maybe we’d end up on the other side of training with a lot less transmission damage.
I think the only real way to learn manual is to get out there and do it. There’s a some tactile things like the spot in the pedal that engages and the risk of breaking things actually gives you the opportunity to show them why we don’t do this or that.
Yeah I guess you’re right. Being able to actually feel the gears engaging and the acceleration of the car is not something you can experience in a game.
Beamng drive is the best sim for this. But absolutely no substitute for real life.
Thanks
Definetly take a look into Beam.ng drive, it can also stimulate the gearbox damage along with everything else. Without high end pedals the feel will be hard to translate when it comes to the catch point. You’d also want some loadcell pedals to be able to practice heel toe properly. I’d say if you don’t want to spend like $700 it would be cheaper to just pick up a junker 5 speed and learn in real life, honestly.
Thanks for the great information. I decided that I’m going to try to rent a manual transmission car. If I can find one then it’ll only be $50-$60 per day.
Any time, good luck!
You could probably do it using these, but you might as well buy a car for the same amount haha.
