I noticed microblogging was mentioned in the FAQ. Is it still planned at some point? (I am hesitating to create a Mastodon account for this, but I would much prefer to centralize everything under my kbin account if possible).

To be honest, creating a Mastodon/Firefish account is quite fast and low commitment. You can always don’t use it afterwards
Yes that’s my plan, but if it’s coming soon in Artemis, I rather wait instead of migrating all my stuff in a week.
