      That’s usually set to 100 points, after that it’s meaningless. You get no special privileges or shit for having anything more. Reddit never knew what it was doing with this. The reason it took off was because digg.com tried to ban the DVD encryption codes. and the people revolted.

      Right around then Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (AJAX) tech was supported in the latest browsers and people were making features out of it. It enabled you to do a thing like click an upvote without reloading the whole page. Reddit stumbled into its success and promised a lack of censorship etc.

      They had a bunch of half-assed features, like “Friends”, which I think is still around but does nothing. The redesign brought nothing but a shit interface on non-mobile.

      I think it’s a big shame that Lemmy hasn’t tried to do anything at all original and we’re still in 2008.
