Marseille have stepped up their efforts to sign Eddie Nketiah from Arsenal after submitting an improved proposal for the striker on Tuesday.
The Ligue 1 side’s new offer is worth nearing €20million (£16.8m) — similar in value to their previous approach but closer to the formula Arsenal want for the forward.
Given their considerably higher asking price, Arsenal are still likely to deem the bid unrealistic; however Marseille continue to work on the situation and the clubs remain in conversations.
Should they strike a deal, the 25-year-old has already agreed a five-year contract with...
If that’s all we’re getting why don’t we just keep him? We regularly use him anyway and if ESR is actually gone we might see Havertz at midfield more too which adds even more reason
Because he’s not good enough. He’s a square peg in a round hole. He can go elsewhere and reach at least European class, but for us, he just doesn’t offer enough and we need to move him on to bring in who we really need.
I genuinely disagree that he doesn’t bring enough, especially as a second-third choice. He’s not great but he’s worth the 20m, especially given the dearth of strikers on the market.
The market feels that a fit and available Nketiah isn’t worth as much as an ESR recovering from injury. He had 6 goal contributions last season. It’s hard to sell that.
Yeah he tends to go on nice little runs when we have an injury up front too. He could be more clinical, and he absolutely has times where he offers not much, but he’s shown he can step up as a backup. For a position where we don’t even have a clear number 1, we sure can’t ask for a world class number 3.
In saying that, if his sale will help fund a pickup like gyokeres, guirassy, or oh my days osimhen, while they’re unproven in the prem I’d say it’s probably worthwhile.
You can disagree, but it’s not me saying that, it’s Arteta. There’s a reason Havertz got ahead of Nketiah and there’s a reason that we’re not linked with similar strikers. We need someone that is equally comfortable playmaking as they are scoring.

Plus it’s Euros, not even pounds. You’re telling me that that’s not worth it when the likes of Jhon Duran go for double?
