last nights’ go at the SMC
Didn’t realise the dew was gonna be so bad so only used 12 x 5mins exposures instead of the 24 I took. Shit happens. Will probably end up using only 4 and will have to take another bunch another night. Good to see the equipment still works though.
It took a bit of time for our lady to settle in this time as she’s been away for a year and hates the carrier - bit of hissing and swiping at her human before he left - but nothing a bit of churu knockoff can’t do to lift a kitty’s mood.
First point of order was bathroom, followed by a general investigation, then of course food (while I was rushing around tidying up and making my own dinner) - guaranteed cutest meows whenever food is involved - but I forgot then that I have to keep her out of my room if I open my closet, because she loves hiding in it and refusing to come out and there was more swiping and angry huffs as I tried to coax her out.
She’s pretty settled now though, headbutts and trills and all, and keeps coming back to sit on/near my socks, so I feel rather honoured 😌
soxloaf and soxfloof
Ah the little Soxgirl! It’s been a while
I’m just happy that she remembers this place! I realise it needs a good dust and vacuum though… poor girl is sneezing in one particular corner.
Those whiskers!
Her tail is so gorgeous too. Medium-haired cats are the best. Not too long to need frequent grooming, but that much more luxurious than a short-haired kitty
We had one like that when we were kids - smooth and silky on top and fluffy underneath. Kitty lived to 22 years old - brainless (for a cat) but beautiful.
SOX!
I am glad you have sighted the sox. I can now sleep. SOX!
i live for these posts
She has definitely become sassier this time around, thought I’d put treats in one of her toys but it was just normal dry food and she went from super excited to instantly cold and uninterested and even hissed at me later when my leg inadvertantly brushed against her… but then she followed me into the bedroom and has been going in and out and I later heard her merrily crunching on the dry food. and she randomly mrrps at me and probably wants to play but It Is Sleepytime Now. Tomorrow I shall try and wear out some of her energy after work.
Oh my lord those whiskers
Second interview went… okay. I definitely fumbled some questions and repeated myself a lot. But the interview ended with talk of what’s next, etc, so at least it wasn’t a “okay, thanks for coming in, see you around” sort of end. Fingers crossed for a call either way quickly.
I’m sure you did fine, everyone gets nervous and fumbles a bit in interviews, it’s to be expected and is fine. End of interview is promising!
That’s true - I consciously remembered that it’s okay to pause and think about responses instead of just blurting things out, so I’m proud of myself for that.
It sounds like you did well, try not to stress too much on repeating yourself :)
The worst case is actually still a best case scenario - consider this a practice interview and write some notes about how you wish to articulate yourself next time. I found it helps to write what I did well, and what I did not do so well. And looking up common interview questions and writing answers in the STAR format helps with memory retention too when you’re put on the spot in an interview.
I’m sure you did great! Fingers crossed for you!!
Thanks, that’s an excellent way to frame it :)
great advice
🤞
Got a bit shitty at work over being lectured about fucking image formatting (fuck Word, seriously) but got over it thoroughly by (a) having walked to work and back - big tick, (b) absolutely SMASHING through the backlog, and © clocking off on the dot - because I have much more important things to attend to very shortly! Everyone else can fuck off!
Also managed to survive nearly getting collected by some fuckwit speeding through Kew Junction after the cars finished turning, a good 20 seconds after the lights had changed and I was halfway across the pedestrian crossing. People do be getting stuck in dumb situations there. No death for me today, though - thanks, but nothing will get in the way of hosting my VIP guest!
Got home in time to do some last minute gardening (now). How good is it having the sun still up when I get home. Home - which has been nicely aired through all windows during the day. It’s a great feeling.
Travelling cat hugs from a belated idiot
Thats like… kangaroo, chicken, and t-rex all rolled into one. Impressive
He did a great roasted chicken impersonation. If you ignore the fur and having a head.
Throw open that door, bask in those well needed vitamin d rays and sneeze yourself senseless for the rest of the day.
Enjoy your night everyone ❤️
Her little RBF ❤️
Anyone following the Collins St Falcons - the babies are hatching!
Mama birb’s bum is firmly on them, but #2 hatched about 40 minutes ago.Oh my goodness look at the wee things 😍
Omg is this live TV?
Ok I read live on there so…
My parents watch this feed. I’ll have to ask my mum if she saw it
I got’em on the telly now
And yep that looks like a dead relo
At least the chicks are okay!
But that dead one looks like it tried to phase through the concrete and lost concentration halfway through 😅😬
I swear I was gone for 5 minutes to get a hot pocket and when I came back it was gone. So I rewound and saw it had been swept along the sill to otherside. Good cos mamma bird doesn’t need to see that shit.
Yeah I was looking for what happened to it, and saw it got swept away. I giggled because mama just watched it go 😂
Either that or a tiny lasso made of fishing line cos having that there was not a good look.
I didn’t know I needed this until I ate it - smoked trout on hot buttered toast with just a smidge of mayo. Life is good.
Whilst I prefer the red trike as it’s pretty stable with a lot of weight at the back, it is currently out of commission so the new shopping goon and snack mobile (for now) is the unicorn basket bike:
Doubt the kids are going to laugh at me now.
“Can I have a chip”… “No”. “Can you buy us some booze”?.. “No”.

some pics of my old sewing machine after spending many hours refinishing the woodwork. It was so bad, it had huge patches where there was no finish at all and much lifting and bubbling of veneer. It’s still really beat up. I haven’t waxed it yet which should help filling holes. Later today I’ll be having a go at it using a tough wire brush on that base cos the softer brush did nuttin’.

and some patina

Shit fire that is a beautiful piece. !
Thanks, it’s really been through the wars with all those knocks and scratches, it’s a machine after all!! 🐱 I learnt the bubbling veneer comes from the wood frame shrinking ever so slightly over the century
And terrifies me working near or on the treadle , it could easily break my fingers or wrist if it moves while I’m cleaning or painting
I recognise this machine 😻
it’s a 1906 H series
Don’t know the series number, but I first leant to sew on one of its close relatives. Identical woodwork.
Same. Feet, eyes and hand coordination needed.
Same here. Granny’s old machine was a tabletop Singer of an earlier vintage with a wind up handle so you had to manoevre thread and material etc with only one hand. Mum’s treadle one like this was soo much easier cos you could have 2 hands available. And Mum had zillions of different feet for it. Only downside was no zigzag stitches, but it’s straight stitching was excellent. My sister has it now, and it’s still in use.
The treadle I learnt on had zigzag, I remember using it to finish seam edges and to make buttonholes. I still remember the method for making buttonholes. Mark the ends of the hole with pins. Set the zigzag to maximum width, near zero length. Do about 10 stitches. Adjust zigzag to about 3 mm width, sew down one side of buttonhole, do the other end of the buttonhole, turn the fabric then do the second side. Finish the thread with a reverse knot , then cut. Very very carefully cut the buttonhole slit between the two sides of sewing.
I know this method, but am just shit at it. Never seem to line the ends up right. I do them by hand if they must exist.
Never seem to line the ends up right.
That’s what the unpicker is for.
I don’t know any family history on the treadle. The Elna I have is early 80s and was my Grans. Don’t care about the lack of fancy stitches. It’s innards are mostly metal so it’s a tank! Wouldn’t mind an auto buttonhole thing, I suck st those
yup, a solid inner frame is the best. These old machines are very strong, the timing rarely goes out and they can sew through tough fabrics.
Reminds me of an “optical bench”. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optical_table
yeah, I love this design too . 🐱
where it didn’t have big patches of no finish it was black with 120 years of old wax, oil and dirt . I took most of that dirt off.
Nice, I once had the base of one but only that part. (Put a wooden top on it as a sewing table with a modern machine.)
OMG THAT SUN THO 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞
I was sweating on my walk to work and as someone who normally hates sweat I can’t tell you how happy I was to peel a layer off and BASK
#W A S H I N G

I did not know if you put a hash tag in front you get gigantic letters. I will leave this here
ayup, got that goddamn hills hoist LOADED FOR BEAR
Today’s weeding done:
About 3x that to go FML.
I’m going to have to ninja it into other people’s green bins at 3am for a few consecutive bin nights (they won’t mind).
My local FB people ask for free green bin space, and usually get an ok
that’s a lot of weeds. What kind do you have?
I believe (I think) they’re flatweed/catsear, fleabane and buffalo grass. The reason I’m doing it manually is the old man will rock up and put a shitload of dicamba / glyphosate on which I can’t get behind.
I don’t know what any of those weeds are 🫥
broad leafed plant that has flowers that look like a cross between a daisy and a dahlia, that one that sometimea gives you lil pink daisies but more often just looks like it’s gonna flower but never seems to do so and that grass that looks like the fake shit woolies used to have on their fresh food displays

CW: mother
A dark thought creeps
Across my mind
Strange tendrils seep
Across my waking hours,
Where previously they were confined
To the cold and late hours.
This thought brings no warmth
With it’s freezing touch.
My heart quickens, beating faster.
So I roll it around
And savour it too much,
A bitter morbid desire:
That perhaps it would be easier on me
If you had died all those years ago,
I could have taken this time to grieve,
And I wouldn’t hold on to so much hope
That you’d return to me
With your laughter
Ringing in my ears.
But now your just another zombie
In the shape of my mother…
But I have no other…
So I hope you’re doing well,
Wherever you now dwell,
That you don’t see a demon in me,
When you look at photos of your baby.
I hope my cousin is a better daughter
To you
Than I could ever be.Net hugs.
so many hugs
