I’m a relative newbie to this… started growing last year, have infused some coconut oil and ghee, have tried a few different gummy recipes and buy gummies as well.
The gummies and other things that I make at home have a moderate to strong earthy flavor while what I buy is quite mild. How do I work on reducing that earthiness? Is it a function of how concentrated my oil is, or is there a processing technique to remove the smell from the oil before I cook with it? My concentrations so far have been in the 75-90 mg/Tbsp range making me use 2 Tbsp of coconut oil in a batch of gummies to get 5 mg per gummy.
Any suggestions?
I’ve heard of washing but thought maybe it was done to the oil after infusion. I guess soaking the decarbed bud won’t impact infusion much since the water will separate out anyway. Or just put it on a rack to air dry for a bit longer.
I just squeeze it and throw it in with the butter, the water separates from the butter during cooling, idk about oil though. It also can’t hurt to have the bud a little wet, won’t lose so much oil/butter hydrating it as well. I use a french press to do the soaking and rinsing, so whatever pressure that applies is enough. And from there into the mason jar with butter into the slow cooker.
Another thing I’ve heard is don’t wring the bud out after, that can pull the stuff out of the plant material.
