GM can’t even write backup camera software that draws guidelines 50% of the time.

This is not my experience at all. Chevy makes outstanding infotainment centers, backup cameras, car controls, and interiors in general. Their engines and suspensions are pretty top tier too. There was a time when they were cutting all the corners and making crap cars, but that was a long time ago.

Lucky you. If you Google “GM backup camera lines” you’ll see multiple results from a variety of GM models where the shit don’t work.

I suppose it’s possible I’m just lucky, but my last two cars have been Chevys. Maybe it’s an issue with their newer cars? My car is almost a decade old now.

Alternative title: Another company is working on self driving cars, they say they’re trying to make it good.

Our contact claims “We’re trying to make something that is useful and not dangerous.”

These hands-off, eyes-off systems — also known in the industry as Level 3 or L3 — are not self-driving cars like the ones Waymo operates (which are considered Level 4). Instead, they typically operate only on highways and at reduced speeds. And unlike a robotaxi, the driver is still required to take control if needed.

Good old GM, always late to the party.

At least all the China EV tariffs will take some of the pressure off them. They can continue to trundle on being second-rate.
