Alberta Premier Danielle Smith received 91.5 per cent support for her leadership from members of her United Conservative Party who voted in Red Deer, Alta., on Saturday.
“Our party is united as it has ever been,” Smith told the cheering crowd after the number was announced.
The party said 4,633 ballots were cast in the vote. The result solidifies Smith’s leadership of Alberta’s governing party and confirms party members agree with the direction she has taken the province since she took over the party two years ago.

What percentage of UCP members cast votes in this… My understanding is that only about 6% were given an opportunity to even vote. It is the most meaningless vote I have ever heard of… What exactly is 91.5 percent of 6%? Let me do the math for you… It is 5.49%. So less than 6 percent of UCP want to keep Marlaina Smith as premier…
I think this leadership vote actually reveals something encouraging - namely, that the cadre of conservatives who feel that Danielle Smith isn’t crazy enough, are not a significant segment of the UCP.
As someone who opposes far right politics, and, given all the unchangeable circumstances at hand, this result is actually something of a relief. Maybe a sign that consideration doesn’t need to be paid to the TBA/1905 faction?
Would I be happier if Smith wasn’t Premier, and that we didn’t have to live through all the bogus shit she’s putting into action? Yes. But I guess it could be much worse. A bitter, yet familiar comfort that left leaning AB citizens have known for decades now.
There is 123915 members in 2023 so probably more now. This was a pointless vote.
“legitimacy”
lol
How long until the next election again?
