USS Gettysburg accidentally shot down friendly F/A-18F Super Hornet today. Both pilots ejected and were recovered, one sustaining minor injuries.
I think on balance it might be the most financially damaging attack the houthis have ever launched, and considering they had no involvement in it, it’s efficiency is essentially infinite!
Someone is getting VERY fired over that one
“Sir, the plane flew in just when the missile was about to hit the terrorists’ rocket!! I swear!!”
Yeah there’s probably a lot of people being yelled at right now.
That invoice will have some zeros…
You imagine being nowhere near the enemy and hearing doot doot doot “MISSILE MISSILE”
The RWR would tell the pilot it was a buddy spike. He knew it was blue and blue immediately and was probably screaming in the radio the whole time
So they probably had enough time to tell the USS Gettysburg to go fuck themselves before ejecting?
We aren’t Russia, what the fuck guys?
You should read about USS William D Porter, this F18 story isn’t even close to the history of that fletcher class. At one point it fired a live torpedo at the Iowa with roosevelt on board.
Imagine killing your beloved president in the middle of the war. It would be the most embarrassing recognition on you, for the nation, and to the president himself being killed by friendly fire.
I don’t really care much about legacy, but I’d really rather whatever legacy I leave not be a wikipedia article about incredibly stupid I was in causing a preventable national tradegy…
Ejection is really bad on your spine.
