I remember it was on the list of blocked instances, but now it’s not, and my page was just flooded with content from there - was that intentional?

Mmmmm, I just saw some posts relating to this, but never any posts from them. If it becomes a problem then we’ll sort it out 👍

Their rules look good and normal. As long as they end up moderating themselves, and don’t brigade our users. I see no reason to bring out the nuclear option, when kind words work just as well.

      So…

      Something like this:

      https://exploding-heads.com/

Is going to be de-federated soon… Right?

Because at least on Reddit I could just block the problematic subs big enough to show up on /all.

But apparently we can’t block whole instances and they keep making new subs (or whatever they’re called) so it’s just whack a mole.

Did you choose to federate with that shitshow? Or does every instance automatically federate and pruning bigots isn’t something this I stance can deal with?

        Hello “Givesomefucks”,

I’m sorry that you are having troubles. Federation happens when users on our instance search for a community on another instance. As you can see from “All”, we currently have a couple of users on Reddthat who has subscribed to the communities on exploding-heads.

        Community Subscribers
        Dank memes@exploding-heads.com	2
        Digital Freedom@exploding-heads.com	0

I agree that the current moderation controls are non-existent. This is a known issue for users, moderators and server administrators alike. The Lemmy fediverse went from ~2000 active users to over 100k in a little over a week. These issues are problems that the developers and users are finding and creating fixes for.

There are only two real levels/options available for us.

        • Server Admins: Defederation (which blocks every community for every user on that instance)
        • Users: Blocking a Community or User (removes that content from your feed)

What is coming out soon (I hope) will be the option for Users to perform a block/filter on an instance level. That would completely solve your problem as I understand it.

If they are specifically targeting you, attacking other Reddthat users or completely attacking Reddthat at a whole. Then we would consider defederating. That goes with any instance in the fediverse, and does not go specifically towards this instance.
I try to be very transparent with these items, as do other server admins. Making a unilateral decision to block an instance purely on different opinions is something that goes against the type of community that I would like Reddthat to become. People are able to have different opinions. Without a different of opinions, the world would be a very boring place.

I hope you understand our point of view, why the federation initially happened. When and why a defederation would happen, and that moderation & filtering tools for users will be coming soon.

        Cheers,
        Tiff
