If you weren’t backing the claim he was a socialist why did you reply at all? The nuance in his views of his own slave holding would not be germane unless you were backing that claim somehow.

I never lied. Your reply only makes sense if you were defending the claim. Otherwise there would be no need for a response since my claim is accurate that he owned soaves and died owning slaves.
