A Black Texas high school student who was suspended because his loc hairstyle violated the district’s dress code was suspended again upon his return to school Monday, an attorney for the family told CNN.
Darryl George has been suspended for more than two weeks because his loc hairstyle violates the Barbers Hill Independent School District dress and grooming code, according to his family.
The code states that “male students’ hair will not extend, at any time, below the eyebrows or below the ear lobes,” CNN previously reported.

Conservatives really believe they can Hitler Youth their way out of diversity.
If only they put half that effort into funding schools adequately so kids would have the class sizes and resources to learn. Nah, that’s for 1st world countries, not shitholes like us.
1st world countries
Your daily reminder that this is a Cold War era term, so 1st world = US and allies; 2nd world = USSR, China, and allies; 3rd = everyone else
I think you meant 2nd world countries ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Which world is a plutocracy?
We’re that one in practice.
Also, language evolves rapidly, terms change meanings over time often.
Try getting 100 random people or even college graduates and try to get agreement on the modern meaning and usage of socialism.
Words and terms evolve, even dictionaries make regular changes to react to already in use changes over time.
I think the more modern usage is 1st world= developed socioeconomic infrastructure 2nd world = developing nation 3rd world = impoverished/underdeveloped nation.
Which world is a plutocracy?
Definitely the capitalist and colonizing “first world” countries, no question. Their wealthy even control Global South countries to a large extent.
I think the more modern usage is
If you meant Global North and Global South, just say it. But it’s completely ludicrous to suggest the US is a Global South country, so I suspect you didn’t mean that.
First world are democracies, second world were communist countries, third world were everything else.
First world are democracies
lol.
third world were everything else.
This is a fun one. Assuming communist countries aren’t democratic (which is incorrect), then the third world is mysteriously neither democratic nor communist. It must be a strange situation to be in, to think that the 1st is democratic, but then the 3rd which is controlled by the 1st is not, and somehow the commies are the anti-democratic ones.
If one examines that situation, they’ll inevitably question why those countries would be kept undemocratic but also anti-communist (which again is supposed to be the negation of democracy) by those very same democratic countries, but that’s dangerous thoughts for a 1st worlder.
No joke. There’s so much nuance thats just glossed over.
Any country can democratically decide to democratize the means of production (that’s what communism is, it’s like us, but with EXTRA democracy) Marx said it was inevitable. I think he’s right.
Neo-libs find it impossible that a society would actively choose a government that puts the importance of everyones quality of life, establishing a medium or high floor thru social programs, ahead of making money.
Cuz how could anything be more important than making money, amirite?
Reminds me of conservatives screaming voter fraud. Cuz if a democrat won then there’s was clearly fraud; no REAL American would vote for a Democrat, right boys, right?!?
Like holy fuck people. Do you ever hear yourselves? Have any kind of introspection?
(R’s screaming voter fraud… They are the party of projection, if there’s fraud, id check Republican wins first. Notably the Senate wins of Rand Paul, Mitch McConnel, Susan Collins and the Fuckface from South Carolina…all were polling waaaaay down before election day. Turns out they ALL had a +17 point swing. +17. That sure seems weird…what, we can’t check those machines? REALLY?!)
Bourgeois “democracy” / multi-party parliamentary democracy is just another name for capitalist dictatorships. There is no safer shell for capitalist rule, than bourgeois democracy, whether it be in the US, UK, Australia, Japan, or elsewhere.

Darryl George must be living in North Korea. He must have the Kim hairstyle otherwise he can’t go to school. DPRK bad.
For real, I don’t know how anyone can claim USians are living in the most free country in the world.
To be fair, if any place was to enforce a hair style code, it would be Barbers Hill.
(Edit: Nice pun there, I missed it the first time)
There’s a lot of rural Texas that would pull racist stunts — I imagine the situation hasn’t got much better in Whitesboro for instance.
To be clear, that doesn’t make it in any way justifiable.
I think that was a joke about “Barber’s Hill” sounding like a place where all the folks in Texas who cut hair live.
Along those lines, Whitesboro should have been the name of the KKK town near where I grew up.
Whitesboro should have been the name of the KKK town
It’s a great example because it’s an actually rural former sundown town, and it has a name very fitting for that, even if unintentionally.

???
I guess “at any time” includes when showering and washing their hair at home.
How is this not flying in the face of the CROWN act which literally just went into effect before the second time he was suspended? Are they hoping to challenge that law or are they just hoping they get away with it? Or are they stupid and haven’t been advised yet?
They argue it doesn’t cover hair length

Wow, that’s beyond a bad faith argument as you can’t get those hairstyles unless your hair is a certain length. I hope they lose hard.
It’s hard to believe they still suspend kids for nondisruptive hairstyles. This rule is a relic of old school homophobia.
I actually think it was implemented more for the hippy generation. This is based off of what my father in law said about his school life.
How the fuck do they not have anything better to do? Good for him, keep stickin’ it to the man.
A chuddish coworker of mine tried to spin this scenario on me like “Imagine you were suspended for having green hair. What would you expect to happen?”
I told him I’d expect my fellow students to stage a walkout in my honor and if that fails, to burn the school down, because it’s clearly not a serious institution if it’s banning students from an education on the basis of superficial things like a student’s hair.
Actually Existing Cultural Genocide
I would say I’m ashamed to live in Texas, but I already was. I try not to call myself an American or Texan citizen, given the genocide that Amerikkka and Tex-ass inflicts on my Latino and Chicano brothers and sisters and enbies.
i just left texas and it blows my mind when people willingly move there
Blows my mind as well. If I may ask, where did you move to? I’m hoping to move to Shanghai one day.
Unless you’re moving from like Somalia or Ukraine or something and aren’t legally or financially able to move anywhere else, I can’t reasonably understand why someone would move to Texas.
A lot of people move there because they believe Texas is a conservative state, and they want to live in a more conservative state.
It is a self-fulfilling prophecy. Texas-born Texans average more liberal than the transplants, and it’s because of this self-sorting phenomenon.
Hopefully it will become Tejas again in the near future
It never really was that. When the Spanish named it Tejas, it was incredibly sparsely populated compared to everywhere else they were colonizing. There were the some Caddo confederations, the Apache, Comanche, and Karankawa but those groups moved around and saw themselves united largely by language rather than region. Much of eastern Texas was considered uninhabitable by the natives mainly due to it being unlivable swampland with frequent malaria outbreaks and poor areas to hunt/gather. And that eastern region is what became the land of horrors we know today. (Houston, Dallas, Beaumont, Galveston, etc)
When Mexico secured independence, the region Spain designated as Tejas was combined with another region to form the federal state of Coahuila y Tejas. And even then, it was still sparsely populated and had a lack of any proper identity. Mexico wanted the land used though, so they paid a bunch of American slave owning dipshits to come settle the land, included among them Sam Houston and Steven F. Austin. Those settlers were the first to actually grant Texas/Tejas a kind of regional identity. And it’s one of the great tragedies of history that Mexico lost that war and the subsequent war with the US.
So the creation of a modern Tejas would be a new project inherently built off stripping it from its white colonizer history, its Spanish colonizer history, and building something kind of new out of its modern, majority Latino population. So in a sense you might say hopefully Texas will become Tejas for the first time in the near future. We can hope something can be made of this utter mess of a place we have.
Typical behavior for US fascist scum. Too bad that school shooters always target random innocent students rather than the fascists in charge of the schools.
See, the problem is that even if they go after the principals, it’s not necessarily even their fault – the superindendents on the other hand…
The code states that “male students’ hair will not extend, at any time, below the eyebrows or below the ear lobes
I still remember going to schools with this rule, made any hairstyle impossible as I had a small forehead, and the teachers would make you undo your hairstyle or combover or whatever to check the length. Buzz cuts done with a trimmer guard shorter than a 3/4 inch / 9mm / a “three” length guard were also not allowed.
WTF, they didn’t allow buzz cuts either?!
Buzzes were allowed, but the hair had to be longer than 9mm. That’s what I mean with the guard lengths. It was done to prevent a skinhead or chiskop look. Basically you were allowed to have a buzzcut, but not allowed to be completely bald.
Sure, I get what you’re saying, but I wouldn’t consider ¼ inch or even ⅛ inch “bald” by any means. I would consider that a normal buzz cut.
Yeah all the rules were stupid, I didn’t understand them either
