Climate scientists, in an effort to stave off despair, aren’t telling the truth about our warming planet. In reality, we're incredibly close to the point of no return: when rising seas drown island nations and almost all coral reefs die. I’m here to tell climate scientists — and my fellow climate journalists — to knock it off, writes Barbara Moran.
Because reality is cruel sometimes and we tend to ignore the unconvenient truths. Al Gore already said it many years ago when we still had a good chance to do something about it, and he was ignored. This problem is too large and incomprehensible for a single human brain. It challenges everything you know about the world we live in. It just can’t be true that this will all go that bad if we don’t act together as mankind and change our way of living. We are doomed because our tiny monkey brains are unable to work this out
I don’t agree that it’s too large for a “single human brain” – many single human brains figured it out just fine.
Many single human brains have present numerous solutions.
The problem is the willful ignorance; the people who lean into their confirmation bias. The problem is people who believe that everyone does this.
We need to normalize telling these idiots to shut the fuck up.
That’s true. And we live in democracies where the many ignorant people can choose who is making the rules. And politicians have learned to exploit this and tell people what they want to hear to get elected. I’m not saying we should abolish democracy, but this system is not very effective in dealing with these kind of problems
