Hey frients! In the interest of sparking discussion, Imma come right out with it:

Glass is better with no water in it [for vaping].

Fight me.

JK, we are all about peace and love here (it’s a cannabis community after all)… but tell me why I’m wrong… I dare ya

Do you use a water piece? Ice/cold water/warm water? Justify, defend, explain!

Do you drink alcohol [at the same time as vaping]? What’s your favourite beverage to accompany a sesh with the Devil’s Lettuce?

I am aware that is not technically “glass”.

Knowing my [wife’s] propensity to break things - even titanium bracelets, damhikt… I have double-walled steel as my ‘water’* piece of choice

You do lose terps and flavour through water, but after a few dry hits, no matter how I have tried setting my rigs up (6mm balls, glass adapters, whips, more glass bends) I get a sore-ish throat without water. Also a bunch of balls in the downstem are annoying to clean. I feel I also lose more of the effect when I add more glass. I also don’t want a big glass piece as the PID and coil setup is large enough (I have a 30cm tall beaker bong which gives me the larger option but I’ve moved away from that for a while now). I am working on making the miniglobe work for me, it is actually a surprisingly open piece which is also good as it means I can add more restriction if needed, but it does mean that the cooling is a little lacklustre compared to larger pieces.

I prefer warm water, but not hot, though putting hot and letting it cool a bit seems like it gives me a longer time at the optimal temp. I feel that the freshest water always makes me cough more whatever the temp, and that after a few hits I cough less, until the water gets too dirty, then it makes me cough again.

Drinks-wise, I make a giant (5ish litre) pan of ginger and lemon tea that I drink for a cuple of days, that is my perfect accompaniment. Though if my shit is a little crappy or if I am need of a tbreak then a beer also goes well to help with that medicated feeling.

Also, I always always have a 750ml bottle of water by my side when vaping. It gets refilled a couple of times a day too.

If I’m being completely honest, I’m a bit of a savage when it comes to consuming cannabis. Although I do greatly enjoy vaping, I haven’t yet been able to let go of my penchant for rolling and smoking spliffs. Whenever it’s feasible, I’ll tend to smoke a spliff with like 20% menthol tobacco. I know thats an incredibly unrefined and unhealthy way to consume, but it’s what I do.

Whenever a spliff isn’t an option, that’s when I break out the TinyMight 2, but I don’t have a bong or adapter, I just use the stems that came with it. Also vape pens are nice when I occasionally go places.

I’m curious, do you say that glass without water is better because the taste is cleaner?

Yeah, I drink beer, craft IPAs for the win as long as they’re not too hazy/fruity. That kaiju krush looks solid

Nothing savage about blazin da herb, although it’s definitely not the best for your health. I started smoking spliffs when I was 13, so the muscle memory and association means that as soon as I start rolling I get this Pavlovian relaxation effect, no actual combusion/ingestion required. I’m not quite there with vaping, which I’ve “only” been doing for about nine years. I still have the occasional zoot, but for health reasons I try to restrict it to holidays and special occasions. But nothing wrong with bunning the occasional zoot, I reckon, whatever the purists might say.

Yeah, from my perspective, the main reason you use water with combustion is to cool the smoke down so it’s not as harsh. Vapour is cooler than smoke, and if you put your vapour through water, it stands to reason that you are going to filter out some small percentage of the volatile terpenes etc. At the very least, it doesn’t taste as fruity; and at worst you’re reducing the amount of good stuff getting to your lungs. I can see how if you have particularly sensitive lungs/throat, that might be a trade-off you’re willing to take. At least one of my mates finds even vapour too harsh for them, and for them I think water might be a good choice. I also think that for vaping, if you are going to use water, warm water makes sense. Again, we’re not really going for cooling; and adding moisture back into the dry vapour would make sense from that perspective for smoothness’ sake.

The Kaiju Crush is a solid brew. Aus has a thriving microbrewery industry, and I always like choosing a six pack of something I haven’t trtied before. I’m also partial to a cup of tea with my cannabis partaking, whether vaping or combustion.

Ahh, you’re an aussie? Dope. You seem like a great dude next time I’m in Australia I’ll hit you up 😅

Yeah your explanation of water vs not water makes perfect sense to me. It may not be scientifically provable, but I have faith that it is true.

Very good point about adding moisture, that’s honestly more impactful than people realize. When I’ve got a particularly dry joint I’ll lick my fingers and wet the outside of the paper a bit, makes it significantly smoother. I would also say that if you’re not filtering through water than you do need a longer stem to allow the air to cool, but also depends what temperature you are vaping at.

Tea is class but I’m not really into it.

Any other communities you’ve recently joined on Lemmy, or that you’ve been looking for? Maybe I can give some recommendations or vice versa
