I saw this for the first time the other day. I think this is a hilarious yet compassionate and even-handed take on the discourse around masculinity. She analyzes and/or satirizes different prevailing mindsets that we commonly see in such discussions, and she builds toward a call to action for men to speak openly with one another and build a new masculinity model for the modern man. I really like how she presented this.
I think it’s actually a really cool take and I agree with what she says, though I do think it’s missing the notion that the “idyllic” hegemonic masculinity we are expected to live into today is not the only form masculinity can take. Some people like R.W. Connell would argue that there are many masculinities–that there is more than one way to be masculine. While I do think it would be great for young men and boys to have a new model of masculinity to aspire to, I think it would be better to have multiple models that fall under the umbrella of “masculinity” but represent varying healthy models for different presentations.
All in all, though, this is not only a great video, but an important one. Thank you for sharing, OP!
Wtf is this?!
