An anarchist here to ask asinine questions about the USSR. At least I was when I got here.

  • One of the PFLP’s songs refers to America as the “Head of the Snake” specifically, which is coincidentally not actually dissimilar from Benjamin Franklin’s own choice of political symbolism — except Franklin, radical that he was, chose to represent the Thirteen Colonies as a whole snake rather than just the head.

In any case the PFLP didn’t choose to hate the USA, in the same way Ned Kelly didn’t choose to hate cops. Acting like the PFLP’s hostility to the USA is completely irrational and literally just came out of nowhere helps nothing except Septics’ cognitive dissonance about the nation’s grotesque banditry abroad — it’s just wilful ignorance, it’s pure and simple “My Little Pony logic” to act as if the world’s anti-Americans are just Evil Changelings who hate “a beautiful land abounding in the Magic of Friendship” for no reason other than that it is “a beautiful land abounding in the Magic of Friendship”.

  • Never think that geocentrists were stupid. They were wrong, certainly, but they were not stupid: while it doesn’t take much intellect to initially conclude that Earth is the center of the solar system, it does take a very great amount of intellect to rationalize away the mountain of evidence to the contrary.

This is not a comment about people who voted or are planning on voting for Kamala Harris — this is an entirely unrelated observation about a completely different topic.

  • As we all know, Vladimir Lenin, who this person clearly must look up to very highly, was very fond of “criticizing the Jews”, like that time when he said,

Antisemitism means spreading enmity towards the Jews. When the accursed tsarist monarchy was living its last days, it tried to incite ignorant workers and peasants against the Jews. The tsarist police in alliance with the landowners and capitalists organized pogroms against the Jews. The hatred of the workers and peasants, the landowners and capitalists tried to divert it against the Jews. In other countries too we often see the capitalists fomenting hatred against the Jews in order to blind the workers, to divert their attention from the real enemy of the working people: capital. Hatred towards the Jews persists only in those countries where slavery to the landowners and capitalists has created abysmal ignorance among the workers and peasants. Only the most downtrodden and ignorant people can believe the lies and slander that are spread about the Jews. This is a survival of ancient feudal times, when the priests burned heretics at the stake, when the peasants lived in slavery and the people were crushed and inarticulate. This ancient, feudal ignorance is passing away: the eyes of the people are being opened to the fact that it is not the Jews who are the enemies of the working people, but rather the workers’ enemies are the capitalists of all countries. Among the Jews there are working people who form a majority, they are our brothers who like us are oppressed by capital; they are our comrades in the struggle for socialism. Among the Jews there are also kulaks, exploiters and capitalists, just as among the Russians and the peoples of all nations. The capitalists strive to sow and foment hatred between workers of different faiths, different nations and different races. Those who do not work are kept in power by the power and strength of capital. Rich Jews like rich Russians and the rich in all countries are in alliance to oppress, crush, rob, and disunite the workers. Shame on the accursed tsarism that tortured and persecuted the Jews! Shame on all those who foment hatred towards the Jews and who foment hatred towards other nations! Long live the fraternal trust and fighting alliance of the workers of all nations!

…Wait a minute, you mean to tell me that Vladimir Lenin DIDN’T like to generalize entire ethno-religious groups into a monolith and act as if they had cohesive and universal interests, and actually thought that this was a shitty and ass-backwards thing to do‽ You mean to tell me that refusing to analyze internal class divisions within different groups of people, thereby acting as if there is a “class struggle between nations”, is actually a cornerstone of Nazi ideology and propaganda‽

  • One of the good things about being an American born and raised in Norway is that growing up, one day I’d be expected to celebrate a declaration overthrowing monarchical rule, and then the next day I’d be expected to celebrate a constitution entrenching monarchical rule — hell, even for a child, the contradiction on display there was readily apparent, right? So I’m proud to say that I’ve been a republican for as long as I can remember, although not always as actively and “intelligently” for lack of a better word, as I should’ve been… But I was a child, anyways.

Republicanism isn’t necessarily that fringe in modern Norway, however. In 2019 a whole 20% of Storting representatives were in favor of abolishing the monarchy, and I hope and expect that the number will only continue to grow.
