Me too. I seldom posted on Reddit the last few years as I felt it got lost.
A refugee from The Other Place when Spez decided to sell out. Be gentle with me, I’m middle aged and trying to get my head around new tech.

It feels like home! I didn’t think it would, but I’ve settled in. I like that it’s a smaller community as I feel my comments count for more somehow. I also like that we’re all (or at least a large proportion of us) just a little bit clueless about what’s going on or how stuff works round here - we’re muddling along together as best we can and it’s lovely.
It feels a lot like Reddit did back in the early days before it got popular, in fact. And I think the existence of multiple instances as opposed to one site has the potential to keep it that way - if your instance gets too big or too busy for your taste, migrate somewhere quieter or even create your own.
I think we have to try it. And by ‘we’ I mean somebody who is not as flat broke as I am.
I’m having exactly the same issue trying to login - I’m guessing that as it’s hosted on OP’s own instance, our instances are not yet federated with his. Not really sure how to remedy that.
Edit: Managed to subscribe with the usual workaround - searched the community list for aquariums, not there. Searched again with [email protected], still not there. Waited a minute, searched again for ‘aquariums’ and it was there and let me subscribe.
This is brilliant! I can’t bring myself to go back, even to visit, as I only use mobile and refuse to use that shitty app. But it’s great to hear people are fighting back.
You’re the hero the world needs
This is how I feel about it - excited to be part of my first inside joke on Lemmy! I have found my people!
Only one, I was tempted to sign up to another but I only just about got a nice mix of subscribed communities on this one and don’t have the patience to go through it again. I don’t really see the point, either, unless you are signing up to a second one that isn’t federated with your current one.
Also, shout out to ReddThat.com, absolutely zero glitches or issues so far except for those that seem to be fediverse wide. Good place to be with good people.
Well he’s just magnificent! Please tell this cat I love them.
Yea I wish I had a CU73 VAJ. Seriously though some of there are totally absurd, even once you know what they’re meant to say, they don’t.
Female checking in. Can confirm that chili is not a friend to the downstairs area.
‘All’ is posts from all federated instances. If you want to view all posts from your instance use ‘local’.
Think of the different instances as similar to email domains. So you can have two totally separate email addresses, eg [email protected] and [email protected] - both have identical usernames, but are hosted from a different location.
These are two separate users, although both can email people on either domain, or indeed people from (almost) any domain.
Theoretically you could create an account on every single instance with exactly the same username.
Thank you for giving us refugees our new home! I’m not financially able to contribute right now for reasons too boring to share, but this is set to change within the next couple of months - as soon as I can I’m more than happy to chip in. Thank you to those who are currently carrying those of us who can’t pay right now, I’ll pay it forward when I can.
I went with ReddThat as the past tense seemed apt. Also it’s a small enough instance not to feel overwhelming, while being large enough to provide content.
14 years on Reddit, my main account would have been 13 years old next week and I finally took the plunge and deleted it. Screw those guys. Is it weird that I felt genuinely sad deleting it, though? Like, I’m 37 years old, a parent, married. I feel a bit silly.
I’ll miss the breaking mom / broken mom communities
I prefer Connect, I did try Jerboa but find Connect more intuitive and familiar having migrated from RIF.
Only sensible course of action now, surely, is to remove all NSFW tags / content warnings and post the most appalling porn and gore they can find, obviously with misleadingly tame titles.
