Pretty sure OP knows that. The point is how burger-brained it is that everything in the US is like this to some degree or another. In a proper society no serious newspaper would be reporting this in a serious way. They would just cite relevant governmental agency data and releases.
Like many things that are wrong with borger-land it’s these seemingly innocuous reports or statements that add up to reflect serious underlying issues. In this case, over reliance on private institutions versus appropriate, existing public institutions. Also it seems to indicate mistrust in the “simple facts” that even agencies like FEMA or NOAA get right (for the most part). Some section of society, growing it seems, are incapable of discerning the facts put out by government agencies vs the bullshit that government agencies put out. For example, NOAA is probably not bullshitting people, while anything coming from the DoD regarding anything foreign affairs related, is 99% bullshit or bullshit-adjacent. People with a teenager’s critical thinking capacity should be able to pick apart the daily lies but also see the truths reported by other agencies.
Of course this mistrust in government and replacing it with private institutions has been the neoliberal agenda for over 40 years. The more all Americans distrust the government as a whole, the more the agenda is succeeding. Rejection of anything good or required being done by the state has become political dogma to basically the entire populace at this point. Decades of Carter “We have to accept our shitty fate!” and Raegan “The government is bad!” going effectively uncontested by both parties…

I mostly analyze things like this in terms that (I think) Lenin first laid out. Basically like does this war benefit the proletariat? Who benefits here? The answer is 1) US arms contractors (bourgeoisie) 2) Russia, if successful which it seems they will be, will gain land and territory (or at least there will be independent regions it exerts full influence over). Access to resources, people living there, etc.
And who loses: Well, it seems Ukraine has lost a massive portion of its young men so far. Not to mention this war will indebt them to the US and others for decades to come with costs that no nation could take on and hope to pay off. Paying off aid to your nation from the nation that set you on the path to war and then told you to keep fighting the war… great situation there for future Ukrainians.
You could argue Russia is losing military members and expending resources on the war, but it’s not nearly as had as the western media would have us believe.
And while the owners in the US “win” in terms of making profits from war, they’re losing the greater fight to continue imperial dominance. And the workers in the US lose out because resources that should be expended on literally anything else are instead spent on bombs which only bring death and destruction to the world. With no material gain to the people who created them. They could be using the metal and whatever other components of bombs to build new bridges, new roads, houses, anything. Instead that potential house goes into exploding a Russian tank. Who the fuck benefits from that besides the guy who owns the factory shitting out bombs.
Very basic analysis there removing any morality from the picture (since liberals hate when you operate on moral grounds… no no we can’t have morals!) and it’s clear that no American, save for capitalists invested in the MIC, should be supporting continued involvement in Ukraine or any other currently ongoing conflict.
I’m still waiting for them to provide proof of actual leftists who outright support Russia invading Ukraine. To them, bringing up facts about NATO/US aggression in the region for ~30 years post-USSR (not to mention the entirety of the USSR’s existence) is “supporting Putin.”
The fact is there is a war there. Putin did invade. That happened. Or aid Ukraine and decide how to aid them. The Samson option is a “last ditch effort” thing where if the Israeli military thinks defeat is imminent and inevitable they’ll basically commit mass murder/suicide. And part of it was (allegedly) aiming nukes at Europe. If they’re willing to hit Europe, there’s no barriers left. And if Israel does launch a nuke, there’s a significantly real chance that Israel itself will be totally leveled by… who knows at that point.

It’s just the definition that has emerged over time. Again, ignoring the irrelevant jabbering of US and other western ally media bullshit, it’s extremely clear that the US state and allies actually agrees with the generally understood definition. The republicans and such will call Harris a commie or whatever, but the US state loves someone like her in power elsewhere if she can hold the power. Typically it requires more militaristic, further right wing leaders unafraid to do horrible things. However, the moment someone who is “left wing” aka anti-capitalist/anti-imperialist comes along, well that’s unacceptable obviously, and opposition mounts. Not because of their “woke” beliefs (or lack thereof) but always always always because of their anti-capitalist beliefs. Specifically the abolition of private property and land ownership being huge “no nos” to capitalists.
So it’s a definition that has arisen due to reality. The further you are from supporting capitalism, supporting private property ownership and capital accumulation, the further left wing you are understood to be and the more the forces of capital will oppose your existence as a implicit threat to their own existence.
It’s more than just vibes. It’s backed up by the reality. I could also define it as “left wing means anti-US imperialism.” The more left wing you are considered to be, the more you oppose the US due to imperialism (capitalism), thus you are an anti-imperialist and anti-capitalist.
Right wing is an alignment with capitalism and imperialism. Devotees and adherents to the US as it exists and has existed since the beginning but especially the last 100-150 years or so are absolutely pro-capitalist, pro-imperialist, opposed to the left wing (they say this themselves) communists or anti-imperialists.
