I don’t want to give away where I live but yes, there are trains which are much nicer than busses and even pleasant in their own right at times. That said last few few times I’ve taken it, it’s clear it’s not as well maintained as it should be, the time has been off, and it’s not nearly as clean as it could be either.

You’re right, because I live in a city with one of the better systems, and I still would take a car over using it given the option.

I think letting people say anything (with obvious bannable exceptions like abuse, threats of violence, death, rape, and cp) helps, that fact checking or being wrong should not be bannable, and that people should be given more ways to conflict with each other but in a way that spurns creative debate not pure hostility but that pure hostility has real value to show people whether or not they should change and shouldn’t be shut down outright. Like commenting ‘fuck you’ should be allowed anywhere but not ‘fuck you go kys’ because it’s destructive not constructive; like if people with unpopular opinions weren’t allowed to silence dissent, they’d actually change their opinions and do better.

I disagree that kindness should be pursued foremost. Knowledge and truth should be pursued and kindness shouldn’t be allowed in charge because when it is you get shit like language policing which is insanely toxic and stupefying.

On that note of personal experience yes cars are dangerous but in a car I have control and my driving can make it a lot safer or dangerous and so far, my driving is safer than most folks I know. Knock on wood.

I imagine in other places in the world, your public transport runs on time, is well maintained, and is clean. Here is such a hit or miss it’s anxiety inducing to the point the road is more relaxing and no, I can’t say public transport is safer given my personal experience.

I think the problem isn’t with home ownership, it’s with unaffordability perpetuated by private equity and how our culture doesn’t see property ownership as a human right but instead as a privilege.

If we made residential property ownership illegal for businesses and limited individual property ownership to say, 5 properties, we’d all be better off. I think expecting people to buy your specific console to play your games is now bizarre, that because they refuse to play nice they destroyed the ability for humanity to preserve the history of gaming as a whole, and that they deserve to be punished like Ubisoft is for their sins against gaming.

We have first past the past voting here, this means we don’t vote based on who we like but rather who is the lesser of two evils.

It makes it easy for good and smart people here to support things like this, even if they don’t want to, because the alternative is worse.
