I mean, looking on the bright side: Even the Federation universe had to go through two civil wars, World War III, and the eugenics war to get to where they ended up.

Yeah, with the recent law in the UK, this is almost certainly trans-exclusionary.
I think that refers to the White Anglo Saxon Protestants who are often the parents of incels and who likely won’t have grandkids.
Can I ask what you’re doing to act? I don’t mean it as a gotcha question, I’m actually curious. Because I don’t know what the heck to do other than protest and vote.
Which, in one sense, is definitely cool. I get the impression that Super Metroid is a game with tons of replay value that encourages playing it in a different way each time.
In another way, to make this happen, I didn’t think it was very fun for first-time players. Bomb jumping is kind of an awkward mechanic and harder to pull off than in Zero Mission, and finding upgrades seemed to rely more on pulling off complex techniques with perfect timing. I don’t remember ever being required to wall jump in Zero Mission or 2. There’s so many beginner’s traps too, with the one-way doors and the noob bridge. In Zero Mission, I felt like upgrades were more clearly telegraphed to the player, so you could get more of them without using a guide. In Super, it’s a lot of bombing random walls and stuff, and the X-Ray Scope feels really limited.
If I got stuck, it would be difficult to consult guides, because many writers seemed to put sequence breaks into the walkthrough as opposed to a “natural” playthrough.
While it might be true that Dread has a lot of “hand-holding” (I don’t know because I haven’t played it yet), part of me wonders if that criticism comes from experienced players who want a harder challenge than Super that lean even farther into advanced-level techniques. I guess I’ll find out when I play it.
I’m disappointed in the Biden Administration and the ACLU for bringing this case to the conservative-majority Supreme Court. I’m also disappointed with Chase Strangio’s frankly terrible, easily dismantled legal arguments. Going forward, there are other civil rights organizations to donate money to, and my trust in the ACLU has been severely shaken. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
I’m truly sorry that HB1 passed in Tennessee, but was it worth making trans healthcare for minors illegal nationwide?
I sort of knew this was going to happen from the start. We had no chance from the start. At least the ruling wasn’t worse, for now. Hopefully this doesn’t open the gates for an adult nationwide ban too. Erin Reed tweeted that this might set a precedent to legally discriminate against people with gender dysphoria in a way that doesn’t technically constitute sex discrimination.
I have to use a printer for my work-from-home job. If you just buy a Brother laserjet printer and avoid other brands and inkjets, it’s way more affordable. It costs more up front, but they’re reliable and don’t need to be replaced every year. My printer cost $250 and I’ve had it for at least five years at this point.
I came of age during the PS3 era and the Indie Game Revolution, where people were debating on whether video games could be art, so I personally can’t help but prefer when games have storytelling and ludonarrative and lore.
But for many people, Super Metroid’s lack of a plot will be a draw and not a drawback, and that’s cool. I’d actually really love a new nonlinear Metroid game in the vein of Super someday, and perhaps this time it wouldn’t take place on the planet Zebes.
I have AM2R archived on my computer. I’m very excited to try it!
When I called Zero Mission an asset flip, I was trying to steelman a potenial opposing point in favor of Super. I may not have been successful at this. And I myself don’t actually see it as an asset flip – I loved Zero Mission.
Oh, thank goodness.
It’s incredible that millions of people showed up and pretty much none of them feel for Donald Trump’s trap that would have, to the MAGA Republicans, justified martial law and the suspension of liberties.
I’m pretty solidly convinced the protest was a good thing and that we won this battle.
My watch collection. I love the Casio G-Shock line because they’re really practical, being repairable, really durable, and having all the features I need short of having a smartwatch.
I prefer the womens’ Baby-G line – I have a black and gold steampunk-ish one that goes really well with my black dresses. But you can’t get any of the cool features with any of the womens’ watches, so I have a men’s athletic watch with a vibrating alarm, pedometer, and second counter; and a hiking watch that’s solar-powered and tells you the temperature and the phases of the moon.
Aside from that, not really, unless you count flannels and unisex boots. I’ve found that clothes from the mens’ section are too baggy and hide my proportions. Even with womens’ clothes, I actively avoid “boyfriend fit” clothes which seem to be really common right now even though they’re identical to the mens’ clothes that are already being sold an aisle over.
That is exactly why the midterms will be so important, not to mention the next presidential election. We need to keep the momentum going for a blue wave, and this protest may have helped with that.
When that fails, when Democrats lose voting rights, when Trump pardons the Minnesota assassin to effectively legalize political violence against MAGA’s enemies, when all peaceful options for democracy have been exhausted, then let’s talk about the violent revolution. Until then, there’s no reason to be a buzzkill about this protest.
The fact that No Kings was nonviolent was perfect, for now, because trying to riot or a coup would have just enabled MAGA to justify state-sanctioned violence of their own.

50/50. I live in a trans sanctuary city with a large LGBT presence. Pride events and businesses are welcoming, and people are generally nice. The cis friends I have left are really accepting. One of my best friends, who is a cis lesbian, stopped interacting with me after I came out. There’s a local TERF activist who lives down the street from me who has a radio show that’s fairly popular in our state. She does everything she can to make us feel unwelcome where we live. One victory: She used to vandalize stickers on road signs and buildings, put razor blades undernearth, and then the trans folks and allies put trans stickers over them – this went on for years. Then I had the idea to put stickers of adorable kittens over her stickers instead, and that put a stop to the sticker war, seemingly for good. It’s been almost two years now since we’ve seen any stickers.
Active listening and being a good communicator. After a lot of negative experiences, if I ever start noticing any of the “Four Horsemen” in an early stage of dating and they don’t see the problem, I’ve learned it’s best to just end things before you’re stuck in either an abusive relationship or one where you’re always viciously fighting. After the honeymoon phase ends, sometimes someone gets tired and respond poorly to things, which isn’t perfect but no relationship is perfect, but I think being consistently berated or stonewalled in a long-term relationship is a relationsip-ending red flag too.
My partner and I, after three years at least, communicate really effectively, I feel, where we start from a point of working together to solve a problem, and it’s such a breath of fresh air.
Finally seeing posts. Hello!
Living so close to Ontario, Canada, and getting air adisories for all the horrible wildfires they’ve been having, it’s a little painful to see lol 🙃 .
But if OP’s geography allows them to do it safely, it’s a really cozy portable setup.
I personally prefer story over gameplay, but to each their own.
