Plenty of people will get angry about made up stories of children being abused.
Those same people do not seem to do much about feeding hungry children in their area, or supporting them when they are abused by parents or guardians.
This single example makes me question to what extent humans can be said to generally act based on a defence of their own moral integrity.
If corruption became impossible due to some update of human moral firmware, the human world would break down to what I suspect would be a surprisingly large extent. Corruption isn’t always a side-issue, it’s integral to how some human governance systems work.

There are no rules. There is only what lies the masses (perhaps even enough to win election, with a little bit of Electoral College bs) will accept, and there seems to be no clear limit to that.

Okay. I will stop expecting humans to treat other humans with decency. After all, we can’t expect innocent people not to be oppressed and exploited. People can also be isolated by being othered by society, e.g. for being neurodiverse, and/or queer, and/or being labelled as an immigrant.
Being isolated is not solely something people do to themselves. It is also a process which people do to each other, because it is not uncommon for people to gain status by reducing the status of others, and thus winning out by comparison.

If Israel’s existence can only continue by killing children, I’m going to have to say I’d prefer those children to be alive. People > country, in terms of importance AND the fact that people are what makes a country really exist (no populace, no country). That means that, if a country can only exist by killing the innocent, I’m going to side with those people.

Jokes aside: I do think Harris is better on this issue (and people should still vote for her) but surely you can see how this disingenuous criticism really side steps the issue.
The game is this: present two options, one far-right and one centre-right. And people will argue for and against the sadness of always having to vote for the lesser of two evils. This will distract at least some of them from the fact that things don’t get better, because “we lost because you didn’t vote for the lesser of two evils”, or “at least we defeated that far-right candidate”.
