  • What? You can host your own nextcloud instance and use it in the files app as a storage location and have all the same “save to” and “Read from” actions for documents that iCloud has. I use that and smb shares regularly and the only apps that don’t work with it are the ones who choose not to implement the apis for it. How is it monopolistic if Apple’s 1st party apps and software only work with their 1st party storage offering while allowing anyone to use the system api’s to connect and access any other storage service they want? Is it just them complaining that you can’t backup photos to anything but iCloud (except you can, by plugging it into any computer locally)? I really don’t understand, legitimately.

  • Ehhh, (at least in the US) considering the cost of living and insurmountable debt so many young people get into these days due to lack of financial education… even a $20k car loan can still be out of the question for a median salary, assuming a decent budget split recommended by most financial advisors because hardly anyone has adequate savings or emergency funds. But yet so so many people in their 20s and 30s with tens of thousands of debt end up getting loans for $50-$60k cars. It takes a lot to afford a $30k car and there’s like… 2??? EV options anywhere near that price here. And while the used market continues to improve, there’s still just not enough options that make financial sense, especially as subsidies die down in many areas.

  • BFU has always been useful, it’s nice there’s a bit of autonomy to it now.

It’s also a good time to mention Shortcuts app has lots of useful functions that can automate your phone for security reasons. There are several community made / managed shortcuts that can do things like lock down the phone, enable certain features, and even start recording audio/video on the off chance you’ve been pulled over or are in some sort of situation. You can also tell the phone to power off / reboot via shortcuts which can be a final step after recording and uploading content to the cloud.

    Stay safe out there.

  • They’re referring to the literal campaign strategy / platform he ran on which includes such fascist rhetoric as deporting 20m immigrants (when there’s at most 13-15m by most estimates, every single one of which helps the economy and is not a burden in any way) and “it’s the last election you’ll need to vote in”, as just a sample. Oh and don’t forget “I’ll only be dictator for one day” as a bonus, a treat. That’s what people mean when they say democracy is dead.

  • I don’t want to blame Harris either, she seemed to do the best that she was given but it always was long odds given that she’s a Half-Indian Half-Black Woman. (Racism from Whites, Racism from Indians for being a race-traitor, and then sexism from everyone including minorities).

This is bullshit rhetoric. She ran a shit campaign of trying to appease republican voters and cater to the snowflake right wing fear machine by shushing Palestine voices to back genocide directly and trying to sound tougher on immigration and border policy in the face of literal fascist policy campaigns by Trump. This is 100% the fault and failure of the Harris campaign’s strategy and the DNC for being so chicken shit scared of losing that they kept the corpse in chief in the running for too long. Catering to the fascist right policies never works and ignoring insanely popular progressive policy always fails. The beatings will continue until morale improves.

  • Technically, an ATI Radeon 9800 as that was my first custom built computer in 2003. However, the ATI Rage IIc was the gpu inside my first desktop computer, an iMac G3 in 1998. But the first one I used was the VGC 12-bpp palette graphics of the Apple IIgs, where I was first introduced to computer games and upgrading the accelerator cards and memory to play new games with more demanding requirements in 1994.
