Just a person who likes media that you actually can hold in your hands and computers that only do what you tell them to.

Same with Mexico, who hasn’t considered USDA guidelines sufficient for ages. There’s articles from 2008 and before about it, and it took super heavy threats from the US to force them to accept some of our trash quality produce (GMO, beef, etc).
This seems more like a motorcycle than a bike to me, but you know, I’m here for it. If the US gets more scooter culture (like Asia), it’d do wonders for the flow of traffic. Right now, cars have just gotten so huge and so dangerous they scare the heck out of me - nothing like 8,000# of low-visibility vehicle with one occupant hurtling down a 45 mph road at 65 to discourage me from being out there.
It’s sort of like “would you rather fight 1 elephant sized ant or 1,000 ant-sized elephants”
A turnip truck just doesn’t pack them in like a taco truck.
I’ve paid as much as $25 for CDs that were hard to find (bands who were on small contracts/self-pub), but in general no more than $15-20. “Average” as you say maybe $5? Anything that was in the 3 CDs for 5cents club, that’s basically $2 at nearly any thrift store.
The nice thing is that CD collectors aren’t nearly as “particular” as vinyl collectors, and most CD cases are way more durable than the cardboard outer/toilet paper liner of records.
I’ve tried to buy several things I really liked on DVD/BluRay in the last few years only to find that they either don’t exist, or the quality is incredibly poor.
Coming to mind are Acorn’s final seasons of Poirot, which are compressed beyond all reason and look terrible, in a case that came largely broken, and the new It, which was the most perfunctory physical copy I’ve ever seen.
I liked the drill attachment ones, I might get one next time. Thanks for checking them out, and the feedback :)
Oh for sure, I am doing them just for the fun of putting more out there. I’m a fan of the genre, I find repairing things to be very punk. Makes me happy to see something broken/useless/damaged/worn become useful and productive again.
Such an awesome editor, I use it regularly to make little repair videos.
LOL exactly :D
Yup, if it’s not food, rent, or essential utilities, I’m not buying it. I had several things I was saving up for this year, but nope.
What little spare I have I’m donating instead to my local food bank. Part of why I haven’t been very active in the record/cd collection forums lately, I just don’t see the opportunity right now.
Hardly inevitable. I’m broke af, the economy is collapsing, so not spending money on Nintendo is the easiest possible choice. Literally not buying something you don’t need is the easiest form of protest.
While I, too, don’t have a feeling of “missing out” on EA games, I also don’t understand their logic. How does this make “line go up”?
That was the final straw for me, I switched over to waterfox for nominally more privacy.
We can’t have anything nice
I say this to be fair, since I’ve used Debian since almost the very beginning: Debian is a bit more complicated to set up.
I generally find when people ask me for help, they’re either on Ubuntu or on Fedora (in which case I direct them to someone else for help). Sometimes they’re gamers or using something where Debian + tweaks is ideal, but often I just help them configure Debian, or just help them get their Ubuntu where they want it.
I don’t know, this was for a system on kubuntu 24.04, the latest up there. I removed it, replaced it with debian and kde - my friend isn’t a gamer, doesn’t require anything bleeding edge, so that was just a better choice in our opinion.
Only tangentially related - but a friend brought over a new kubuntu install and Canonical had the cheek to demand money for VLC patches? They don’t fing own VLC. What the actual f is going on over there, Canonical?
I just recently de-snapped yet another ubuntu system. Couldn’t agree more. I use debian standard for all of my stuff, and I agree with your ranking.
I find it interesting that simply having been involved in litigation (I got sued once for an art piece) seems to be enough that I go home every time I’m called for jury duty. They really do want people with no idea.
