  • Been thinking about this a bit and I wonder if it was just a case that the club thought they had better bargaining power with a Gyökeres deal since the player is also pushing through the move.

Whereas Sesko may end up demanding a much higher fee, meaning less funds to contribute to other transfers.

I obviously have no idea, but it’s what made sense to me. Also considering the fact that the stumbling block for the Gyökores deal seems to be over an extra 4m up front, at least according to reports.

  • Transfermarkt indicates Mosquera can also play RB. I don’t know much about the player though. If so, it would be handy to go in for him and also retain Kiwior in an ideal world.

This transfer window has felt more focused on pushing for silverware, so I guess it will depend on the deal and how much is left in the budget after strengthening key areas. It would be good to make some good deals on future young players. Either they contribute to improving the team or can be sold on for a profit.

Good point about Trossard I hadn’t factored in. I finally went through and finished accumulating the post-match ratings and Trossard was one of the players in the squad that was consistently available. He may not have rated very highly overall, but I think he featured in every PL game, either starting or coming off the bench. We voted him MoTM 4 times.

Given his age and contract length it definitely does seem wise to strengthen that position.

  • A lot of these pundits would be more useful as baby bird feeders. I feel like all they do is pick up on hearsay and conjecture and regurgitate 2nd/3rd/4th hand information without doing any actual leg work and research.

It’s barely ever meaningful or constructive and seems to only follow popular trends or incite/fuel outrage for clicks/views.

  • I think we’ve been doing some good business so far (Madueke not included. Yet.). What other positions would you like to strengthen?

    • GK: Kepa
    • Midfield: Zubimendi, Nørgaard (incoming)
    • Striker: Gyökeres (incoming)

If Kiwior stays, he can cover for DC and LB, but with Tommi leaving, we only have Timber and White as RB options. The club are apparently looking as Mosquera as DC and looks to be able to cover RB?

A backup winger might be required, but I’ll admit I’m not sure what I think we need. We have Trossard and Martinelli on the left, Saka on the right with the possibility of Jesus (subject to availability) and Nwaneri who Arteta may prefer to cover Øde? You then have Havertz who could cover for that position, but I think plays better up front, at least in our setup.

Looking at our Winger options I can see why the club are looking at Madueke (obviously there are concerns there) who can cover both LW and RW. Eze would add good cover for the LW and we’d have Saka, Nwaneri and Jesus (if available) as RW.

It looks like Rodrygo could also cover RW and LW, but I imagine he would be a difficult target to get as all the other big clubs will be in for him.

What I’m realising here is I’m glad I don’t have to make these decisions… but curious on your thoughts outside of what has been reported.

I made a little depth chart thing using Transfermarkt to help me visualise our depth for each position. I included current, potential in-comings and out-goings as well, for no other reason except to get a holistic view. It started to get a little messy, so I then split a player’s main and secondary position. I also included secondary positions I highly doubt Arteta would ever use that player in i.e. Ødegaard playing off the RW or even in MF.

This is the page I used for the Arsenal squad. Then I looked up the other players.

  • It’s most likely hot air, either by the agent as a scare tactic or journalists for clicks, but even if Nwaneri does decide he wants regular football, why the hell would he entertain Chelsea?

Sure he’ll get a fat paycheck, but there’s no way in hell he’d be guaranteed regular football with their bloated squad. It would defeat the purpose of moving for game time.

It feels like journos are feeding off Chelsea’s transfer activity for views.

  • That’s how I felt about Clara back then. It felt like she was hamfisted into being the reason the Doctor is who he is. It doesn’t feel half as bad as I remember now though.

You could also argue the same for Amy Pond. Maybe the difference is it felt more natural opposed to literally being a part of the Doctor’s timeline.

  • I too, like you, thought he was cleared. I figured he was more of a sexual deviant or something and I admit I didn’t look into it too heavily myself and that’s on me.

So this next part feels gross to say now… I didn’t think he was great, but I think we needed him and it was good to see him but in some consistent performances throughout the season. That is of course due to the lack of other options in midfield, which once again comes down to the clubs inaction. What’s more damning is that they were looking to extend his contract as well, only for him to be released on a free and then charged a few days later.
