  • Token German chiming in

You got most of it quite right, except the ending. It’s -erle, or really just -le (depending on where you split the word). The suffix is used to change a word to sound smaller, cute, playful and generally less serious. It also has a southern accent/sound to me, but take that with a pinch of salt. Not sure if there is an english comparison. Its similar to another german suffix: -chen

After a year of unemployment one may have their eyes opened to how truly awful the modern working conditions and hours are. They may even pick up a hobby, make non work friends and God forbid enjoy life outside of prepackaged holiday trips. In short, unemployment can be a mirror to unfair and insane employment conditions.

  • Well, the last time I checked in they were still relying on fetal bovine serum and cancer cell growth to make lab meat production work (look it up yourself tho). I mean on paper it seems like good option if animal suffering is your concern, but (long term) health impacts of cancer meat are still a mild concern ig. And also it’s exorbitantly expensive (citation needed) if you can even buy it and still requires loads of resources to produce. I’d much prefer a cheap alternative, not imitation, for cheap meat. It may be hard to replace a grilled stake (in flavor, texture and most of all people’s preference) but looking at cheap pink slices of processed goo I half way expect them to already be vegan, but like in a really bad way. I feel like meat alternatives should start where it’s easy and tackle ‘authentic’ meat a later time. In the meantime I’m way more concerned with ending special meat subsidies in favor of supporting resource efficient vegan alternatives. Make vegan food cheap and people will follow, no need for perfection. For the record I’m not (quite) a vegan and price and convince are like the only things holding me back so far.

  • A cursory glance at your comment history suggests you’re perhaps in the wrong community. Not to gatekeep, come here with curiosity, humor and in good faith and you shall be received likewise! Otherwise tho, your attitude might just end up spreading negativity in others and yourself. If that’s not something you want, then start by avoiding hurtful slurs. If you wanna use this opportunity to learn something new and to avoid seeming rude by misunderstanding then you’re welcome to ask, answer, anything!

  • Alright, so… I did originally mean your post, but I had not properly watched the video (skimmed cause didn’t have 30 mins). So now that I’ve seen more, I’d like to correct myself.

First of all, I agree with your take on political organizing outside of mainstream elections. I think this is the best (perhaps only) tool of truly improving our democracies and lives. I actually think some level of organization and self-education is my democratic duty.

And yes, I also think the regular buzz around elections is a thinly veiled disguise for a distraction from relevant politics. However, only because my vote won’t fix much, doesn’t mean it can’t make things worse.

Voting may not work to improve a democracy, but it sure works to damage it. Depending on how deteriorated your voting system is (bad representation, easily gerrymandered,…) an election may only be a choice between bad and worse. So I vote for the least bad option and use the opportunity as a painful reminder of how messed up my democracy already is. And then I do actual politics outside of the booth to try and fix it.

The reason I alleged astroturfing is because there are antidemocratic interest groups, very intent on getting leftists to not vote. Your title (I know, it’s just the video title) doesn’t make a clear distinction between “voting isn’t enough” and “voting is useless/don’t do it”.

I think we might agree on a great many things and just had a bad start (next time I’ll watch the vid first, but in my defense your title is misleading too). I’d rather work together with a fellow leftists towards improvement, then be needlessly divided.

  • This looks like astroturfing (even if it’s not it still looks the same). Call out bullshit like this in our communities and learn to notice it yourself.

Added context: astroturfing by design targets outlier talking points in a community so there are always some genuine posters mixed up with the corporate puppets. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t call them out. If you find yourself among astroturf accounts, it’s your own responsibility to denounce them and avoid accidentally cooperating!

  • Interestingly, this list seems to be a close match with trending YouTube content. Perhaps there’s a discussion here about how social media and purpose engineered trends shape our hobbies (and even live purpose ig). Or maybe these topics just get lots of views naturally on account of them being good hobbies. Also, obviously no offense to op and their interests.
