Berkeley Software Distribution@lemmy.sdf.org•How can I improve the performance of OpenBSD?English
2·4 months agoIs there any way i could increase the performance of OpenBSD on my ThinkPad?
That ThinkPad T400 is REALLY old and OpenBSD is known to be slow - so if you connect slow hardware with slow OS … you get what You get.
IMHO update to at least to T420/T430 … or change OpenBSD to NetBSD or FreeBSD.

1·5 months agoThanks - I tried it under NetBSD in FreeBSD Bhyve VM - but no luck for me:
netbsd# uname -prsm NetBSD 10.1 amd64 x86_64 netbsd# ./lsblk.NetBSD DEV LABEL FS SIZE USED USE% MOUNT ---------------------------------------------------------------------- disklabel: ioctl DIOCGDINFO: Inappropriate ioctl for device

Berkeley Software Distribution@lemmy.sdf.org•FreeBSD PKGBASE pkgbasify(8) ToolEnglish
2·5 months agoAbout my other comment below/above - its already fixed in latest version of pkgbasify(8) so you can convert Jails to PKGBASE if needed with that tool.

1·5 months agoI would love to sit down on this and just port it to NetBSD … but this month time is my ‘valuable’ thing - and I need to provide some things that I need to do for a living - please try and share what you found to work - I would really like to make lsblk(8) also work on NetBSD - as if FreeBSD would not exist - the NetBSD UNIX is the system I would be using instead :)

2·5 months agoHi and thanks for testing it on NetBSD - let me know how it went - we can add that to my repo and I can ‘maintain’ lsblk(8) that will both for FreeBSD and NetBSD :)

2·5 months agoAre you not using the W520 anymore? Your posts were very useful in configuring mine.
I wally like W520 - but it has one drawback for me - it needs at least 135W PSU - which means I can not use USB-C adapters … but the thing I need the most from W520 (comparing to T520) is that quad core CPU … and I just bought T520 with quad core CPU - unfortunatelly also with Nvidia 4200 card … but I will seek for one with ‘only Intel GPU’.
The two W520 I have - I will clean them up and sell some time.
So for TL;DR - I will replace mine W520 with T520 to have it as a backup :)
Regards.

I made the same mistake earlier, thanks for reply :)
