Usually I sleep at dawn but holy fuck I didn’t sleep and I’m not drowsy or tired! And I feel bored and i don’t know what to do.
I have been having trouble sleeping for a month now and it sucks. I wake up tired and angry. Get pissed off non-stop. Shit sucks.
You may have sleep apnea if your sleep quality is so poor.
It’s not sleep apnea. It’s sleeplessness due to anxiety.
ah
Anything specific you’re anxious about?
Just life in general. Thanks for asking.
I have a movie, a docu and an audiobook (won’t name them cause people will laugh) that I’ve pretty much classically conditioned myself Pavlov style to fall asleep to. When I have anxiety I put one of those things on and I’m out within 5 minutes. Lame, I know, but if the cost of sleep is being lame, so be it.
That’s… actually kinda nifty and convenient. Lucky!
Yeah, wish it wasn’t necessary though. =/
Others have their bedtime routine too. If it helps you getting the sleep you need, its good.
Ratatouille, something by Michael Moore, and the Jim Dale Harry Potter audiobook?
A Few Good Men, cause I like courtroom dramas and it’s a movie that can be followed by sound alone (with eyes closed), like a radio drama/stage play. Not saying the docu and audiobook cause I will be made fun of for sure and I don’t feel like defending my guilty pleasure right now.
Do you have trouble breathing while sleeping?
Your drowsiness will kick in.
You may hit a “wall” later in the first day and it’ll suck. If you go a few more day without sleep thought? You may feel terrible after that.
Chronic insomniac here. I struggle immensely falling asleep, though once I am there I can usually stay asleep for at least a few hours. I have gotten used to it and just consume inordinate amounts of coffee now/got used to operating on three hours. I stopped trying to push myself to get to bed earlier, because it makes me less likely to get any sleep at all.
There are a couple horror podcasts that help me semi-doze (I find horror very relaxing, which probably would give a therapist loads of material to work with) when I am on the bus or train. It isn’t a proper sleep but it gives me a bit of rest and can actually give me a few hours extra energy before I feel tired again. I get what sleep or sleep adjacent activities in when I can.
Scare You to Sleep is the one I recommend most often for that, the title alone should hint that it is geared towards exactly that.
Vegetables, fruit, vitamin d, exercise, avoid junk food, caffeine, warm shower. These are trite advices and you’ve probably tried them already but just in case.
Can I ask about your sleep hygiene habits?
Sleep hygiene?
Sleep habits.
Oh, sure you can ask me
- Do you lie on your bed for anything other than sleeping?
- How much time passes between the last use of a screen and you going to bed?
- What activities do you do in the 2 h previous to sleeping?
- Do you have a regular sleep schedule? If so, which one?
- Intake of stimulant substances?
-basically looking at my phone -approximately 12-6 hours -pacing & eating -normally start sleeping at 12:00 am -used to drink coffee now I drink tea
