they could always try not pandering to nazis and xenophobies and actually stop with the rampant anti migrant and anti immigrant policies…

This would only make the problem worse.

A big problem is the lack of common sense immigration policies. Looking at statistics and numbers as a bad thing and how to decently lower them instead of fighting the actual crime part. Like making it harder for people who actually want to work hard and integrate into our society live here, playing by the rules. Yet keeping illegal immigrants here who kept taking advantage of systems. Under the tories (as idiotic as there were) they at least made it seem like they were doing something with the Rwanda policy. However Starmer has dropped that and presented no real alternative, so I guess this is why people are seeming to want to take it into their own hands, committing despicable acts of violence.

By not addressing something that is a problem, it’ll enrage them more.

I have problems with this because first of all, you don’t differentiate between people seeking asylum and people immigrating here. The latter come here as students and workers and the former come here to escape persecution in their country. The idea that huge swathes of criminals are flooding into the country isn’t true and has never been true. Do some people come to the UK and commit crimes? Yes. Do British born people commit crimes? Yes. Should either reflect on anyone but the individuals? No.

For most British voters, immigration is about the fifth or sixth most important political issue. But many of the comments on this forum are from people for whom it’s the most important issue.

Under the tories (as idiotic as there were) they at least made it seem like they were doing something with the Rwanda policy.

That was performative and accomplished nothing.

However Starmer has dropped that and presented no real alternative

The alternative is to eliminate the backlog of pending asylum cases by processing cases more rapidly, and to make agreements to process some asylum applications offshore. The first is a policy in Labour’s manifesto, the second has already led to a bilateral agreement with France.

I guess this is why people are seeming to want to take it into their own hands, committing despicable acts of violence

You’ve guessed wrong. Those people are fascists who are committing acts of violence because they are racist, xenophobic hooligans who enjoy harming people. Immigration policy is a pretext for them. The fact that they use that pretext in no way adds legitimacy to the immigration issue. Burning people alive is in no way “wanting to take it into their own hands,” it’s murder.

By not addressing something that is a problem, it’ll enrage them more.

Appeasement is never a morally acceptable solution. The correct solution is for the rioters to be imprisoned, especially their ringleaders. Their power must be broken. If that enrages them, too bad.

This is the streak of Labour that I hoped wouldn’t return but here we are. I think they’ve been making noise about ID cards too.

This is disappointing. Criminals are already covering their faces. Making that illegal won’t change that because they are criminals, so you just increase the laws they are breaking.

This is purely for mass surveillance. “Never waste a good crisis”

Are they just betting that enough people don’t know what they’re pushing for?
