“Referencing” when it is almost a straight copy sounds a little light.
Afaik that’s simply what it is called in TV… the Simpsons aren’t considered to be copying shows and movies even if they do whole episodes with storyline or shot-for-shot recreations. It’s a homage, a reference or a parody.
