54’ (Pen) Odegaard.

At this rate all our players will be suspended due to yellow card accumulation, but it’s good to get that win.

      Completely changed the game.

But we also need to learn from City and not completely throw our game plan out the window when we get red carded. Why couldn’t we continue to dominate possession with 10 men?

The first yellow was “wrong place, wrong time”. The team was seen to be time wasting, and he just happened to be holding the ball when the Ref lost his patience. It’s unfortunate, but if this is the way refs police time wasting overall it will benefit Arsenal this season. Arsenal are mostly victims of time wasting, rather than perpetrators.

The second one is one you’re always going to see given. A player gets turned in a break-away situation and the defender touches him. If the attacker goes down, the defender is always going to be carded. Ayew is a clever attacker and knew how to sell it.

The problem there is that you’re expecting the refs to be consistent

They are absolutely consistent, what do you mean? Consistently benefitting teams in a city that rhymes with Colchester, consistently not booking Rodri for horror tackles…

Very soft second yellow to be a man down. But we persevered, man I can’t believe how much I’m missing Timber after just one match. Gabi coming back to the defensive front showed how much value he holds (at least £130m Saudi cough).

We need to finish our chances, especially in the first half. This game shouldn’t have gotten to that level at the end.

Didn’t get to watch the whole game and even when I was I was kind of distracted (boooooo work).

Overall not the greatest performance but the important thing is we got 3 points. A few years ago this would have been a game we lost or we would have let the red card rattle us. Eddie needs to be sharper or I’d give Trossard a start, can’t have opportunities squandered and win the league

I wouldn’t be so confident against Fulham. Tierney damn well better stay unless we’re planning on somehow spending even more to replace him.

Maybe I’m over confident a little but I just don’t think Fulham is nearly as dangerous of a team without Mitrovic.

I love Tierney and really wanted him to succeed here but I just don’t see it happening, given our formation and style of play. I kinda figured with Timber being injured we asked him to stay one more year, but I’m just assuming at that.

I mean they aren’t as good but they’re still a solid team. I think Tierney absolutely should stay cuz if we don’t keep him we have 7 good defenders and Holding who is no longer good enough, including an injured Timber. We should be aiming for 9 elite defenders imo, not 7 with one out for the season lol

Selhurst Park games always were 50/50

I’m glad the team stood firm, previous seasons we would’ve panicked, but we really shouldn’t be making these games that nervy. Credit to CP they did try to make it tough.

That was never a yellow for Tomiyasu.

Can we just not play Partey there? I think the experiment has yielded not so good results.

I’m hoping the team gets mad about this performance and puts 5 past Bernd on Saturday.

Once Zinny is fully healthy we’ll be good again. To be honest we have been controlling the ball very well , just need to finish our chances especially in the first half.

Lovely stressful start to the season, but two wins is big stuff especially under such pressure.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the first two games and I have a few thoughts.

    1. Havertz is there for possession higher up the field. He’s big, a good defender, and wins the ball back in dangerous places. This means more XG, but also less chances for them to score. We haven’t played anyone big yet, but we also haven’t really looked like conceding. Exception is a set play.

    2. I think this is all experimental, and you’ll see some more experiments in the League and FA cups.

    3. We’ll be competing hard for all trophies this year, so people will be needed. You could field a XI that is totally different from the premier league one. This is when people like ESR and Trossard can make a case that they can’t be left out of the premier league XI.

    4. I think when Jesus comes back, we’ll see more goals.

    5. The set up he’s experimenting with is the one to beat City. Beat City at home and we’re in a title race.

I actually think Coote had a pretty good game overall, but man when he fucked up he made it count. Glad we came away with the 3 points
