Well, yeah, because most apps depend on Google services.

Maybe they could rather fix AOSP. Based on that recent LTT video Google doesn’t really give a fuck about it anymore.
I just recently bought 2 phones (one returned, other isn’t far from that), one with A14 the other with A13. Changing minimum width to >600dp (to simulate a tablet (larger screen) and trigger tablet mode) has very wild results now. I mean like overlapping icons in notification shade, completely non-functional 3 button navigation, app tray squished to less than width of 1 icon (completely unusable), icons getting off-screen, gesture navigation occasionally not working either, notification shade icons and notifications offset from their background (just a visual problem) and a lot of wasted space everywhere.
Sure, it’s in developer settings, but so far whenever I did something to this in up to Android 11 including, the phone just beautifully adjusted to this and everything suddenly made more sense on a large screen.
Though maybe I was just lucky?
I am currently typing this on an old Moto G5s Plus (2017) with the now discontinued PixelExperience (11) ROM. My last bug-free Android experience. I can even route hotspot over a VPN, how cool is that.
bcrypt, to save you time.
Anyway, I’d be curious to see that data. It also got my email that I only used for donations to IA. I wonder what data is associated with that email.
Not sure where to start searching for that data.
I just did a manual test with sh.itjust.works comparing it to lemmy.blahaj.zone.
sh.itjust.works keeps accepting attempts
lemmy.blahaj.zone blocks after I think 3 attempts (I forgot to pay attention)
lemmy.ml also blocks after 3 attempts
sh.itjust.works and lemmy.blahaj.zone even use the same version, lemmy.ml is on a 0.19.6 beta.
Going further, lemmy.world: no blocking (as far as tested)
lemm.ee: no blocking (as far as tested)
sopuli.xyz: after 10 attempts
Summary: SDF is using old version, the rate limiting seems to be variable suggesting a setting
Analysis: lemmy.ml, lemmy.blahaj.zone and sopuli.xyz appear to be exposed directly (.zone doesn’t respond without SNI, other 2 show NGINX page). NGINX can pass client IPs in headers.
The rate limiting appears to be IP-based.
sh.itjust.works, lemmy.world and lemm.ee are all behind CloudFlare.
Hypothesis: Either a problem with passing client IP headers from cloudflared
or the instance admins simply trust CloudFlare to provide some rate limiting.
Akshyually, the extended use of drywall would say otherwise.
OK, I recovered it. It seems Lemmy (at least 0.19.3) has no rate limiting for trying 2FA codes.
Edit: Fixed typo (seem -> seems)
Nope, but thanks.
It uses the hidden appDataFolder and it seems the files in it can only be accessed via those apps.
I found some more (but old) info here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/22832104/how-can-i-see-hidden-app-data-in-google-drive
Maybe I could figure out something from those examples, but based on Google there’s just mere 4KB of data. That doesn’t sound promising.
Perhaps, but it seems this is a hidden portion of Drive that only the app itself can access.
Already did, but thanks.
I remembered them resetting 2FA (per-request) when Lemmy used I think SHA256 instead of SHA1 and a lot of people got locked out.
Or implement backup codes. I have backup codes for sites like Google. They are some longer single-use codes that can be used to login and reset 2FA. A lot of sites have that.
But yeah, I never thought of multiple keys. I could simply enroll and un-enroll each device. Safer and more convenient.
Money.
It would cost money.
That would be mine dog. He attempts to eat everything like Bubba.
But Mullvad dropped port-forwarding which is relevant in the context of torrenting.
They won’t be able to identify what is making the pizza so delicious but they’ll absolutely love it.
…and then you tell them it’s pineapple, right? What an evil plan, I love it!
I would stop. At that point it’s not really a donation, but a payment. I don’t know how much of that donation to consider a “payment”.
Similarly I didn’t get the Tor Project stickers. I don’t know how much the stickers, envelope and postage cost them, thus I couldn’t determine the amount that is “donation”. As such, I opted not to take them. Just the same with Fediverse Canvas 2024 stickers. Some amount of that has went for Canvas development, but how much I don’t know. Once again I opted for donation only.
I’d like them in both cases. Perhaps $3 (excl. shipping) per sticker is still OK to consider a purchase, but $25 for a few stickers, meh.
Anyway, my point is, if for the donation I am provided exclusive products or services and I either don’t know their cost (to subtract from donation amount) or don’t have the choice to opt out from being provided the services/products, I won’t donate at all.
But even outside of that, it wouldn’t pass. For me, one requirement for donating is that whatever group I am donating to provides everyone the same service no matter if you pay them or not. Otherwise I can’t really consider it a donation, and I don’t have the money to pay.
Seems to just be a normal Lemmy instance, so why wouldn’t it be? You just need to choose some client app, or use the browser, whichever you like more.
But also imagine if everyone donated the amount you did. Even those $10 put you above the average.
Maybe they were talking about Cisco Duo 2FA app not checking backup age, and just overwriting it with whatever was on device.
