Holiday where settlers are thanking God for the help given to their ancestors by natives, and they later genocided those natives. So a holiday symbolising racism, hypocrisy, ingratitude and genocide. Truly the most Usian of all holidays.
Israel in 200 years
The entity won’t last that long
Bro probably watched too many movies to come under this impression.
Wholesome celebration of genocide.
Like don’t get me wrong I love coming together with family for a long standing tradition of communal feasting but we are under no illusions about where its origins are.
I wonder, as a lowly non-american, if people in the US actually find womp womp to be a funny retort?
What does it even mean?
Meant to imitate a sad trombone sound, but it is so half assed.
That’s like the most purified explanation
The reason it has been memed a ton in the last like 6 years or so is because Corey <giant last name> said “womp womp” on Fox News in response to abuse of migrant/immigrant children. The other guy got pissed off and it became a whole thing similar to Trump’s covfefe incident where the media “wanted to know what it meant!” One of the biggest Trump guys doing the sarcastic tiny trombone sound when confronted with the reality of what he supports… but Chris Cuomo was confused over the meaning.
Anyway, I think this clip + media response (social media like reddit, twitter as well) popularized it in recent years

Even if for some reason “womp” would be right onomatopoeia for that sound, it should be “womp womp womp wooooomp”, so literally half-assed.

It makes me want to sink my teeth into the user
I totally get it and I get the same urge, but tbh I really wouldn’t want to taste him.
At least among stupid edgy ‘cynic’ kids, yes. Get me out of here.
I’m feeling called out, being both American and having used the phrase lol. Though to be fair, it’s not something I’d think to use as a retort to another person directly.
😬
The fucking bitmoji puts the cherry on top
Most of the other holidays are stolen from elsewhere, so they probably don’t have many holidays they can claim as “ours”. If the other option is freaking President’s day, he may have a case.
“cry harder foreigner” bros gonna call someone “an illegal” online 😭😭😭😭😭
The most wholesome holiday in the most wholesome democracy.
Stuffing a dead animal’s asshole while celebrating a genocide is actually a cool thing to do you know
The idea that because the US owns reddit, it means everyone using the platform has to care about or put up with Thanksgiving is bonkers. Did I miss something over the past couple of years where Reddit just automatically assumes everyone using it gives a toss about the US?
The mentality of these people is peak imperialism. Just because a US company created the platform, their cultural practices need to be pushed down everyone else’s throats.
I honestly don’t care if somebody wishes me a happy/merry/terrible <holiday I don’t celebrate here>. However, if it is off topic that seems like a fair complaint. The OP there seems like they had issue with Thanksgiving not being relevant to the sub, that seems fair.
If it was a US-centric sub like /newyork or something, sure go ahead. But I am guessing that is not the case.
